Technical problems with the existing bar code system caused emptying data to be unreliable so that the bar code system could no longer be used as a basis for billing. In addition, it caused high maintenance expenses.</p><p>In the future, the new MOBA system will be used in the whole city area of Erfurt for the fee-relevant capture of waste generation. All 27 waste collection vehicles will be equipped with identification technology, and about 72,000 waste containers for the organic, paper and residual waste fractions will be fitted with high-performance HDXBDE transponders by MOBA.</p><p>The equipment of all registered waste containers with transponders not only enables the city of Erfurt to levy waste fees reliably, but additionally, MAWIS prevents unregistered containers from being emptied “free of charge”. Since the transponder identification system cannot recognize them, these containers will simply not be emptied. They need to be registered and included in the fee system first.
